Department of English Language and Literature Honors 2019-2020 Student of the Year
The Department of English Language and Literature at Kuwait University honored its outstanding student for the academic year 2019-2020. The award was won by Fatimah Kamal after she competed with a group of other distinguished peers of hers in the department. The announcement for the winner of this award - which is held annually for the fifth time this year and organized by Dr. Sundus Alajeel – was declared after the candidate deservedly fulfilled the multiple requirements and conditions of the award, which included getting nominations by the department’s professors, writing a high-quality expressive essay, maintaining a high major and general grade point average, as well as showing an academic and personable attitude which is responsive and interactive within the university in dealing with teachers and students as well as outside the university by engaging in extracurricular activities in service of the community at large in contributing to its academic and voluntary functions. This year’s winner, Fatimah Kamal, who is a department graduate who has higher studies aspirations, was honored by the chair of the English Language and Literature Department, Dr. Lafi Alharbi, in recognition of this distinction as he granted her a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize donated by a group of the department’s professors who participated to encourage the winner. Fatimah, in turn, thanked the department for their encouragement and urged her colleagues to persevere to achieve such prizes which can be garnered by students who are keen on balancing their life and coursework duties as they manage to best use their time to ensure academic excellence.
